Elective Courses includes Academic Writing, TOEFL, IELTS, Idiom & Vocabulary, and Free Conversation. UEC's term for 'elective courses' is the Customized Communication Course (CC). Each course is a special purpose course created upon the request of an individual student, business person, etc. It is designed to improve an individual's command of written + spoken English in the most cost- effective manner.
Customized Communication Course (CC)

Customized courses are an essential component of UEC's 'English Direct' program that aims at improving the delivery of language instruction to the 'Pacific Rim' and sharing knowledge. Customized courses are electives. At the outset, four (4) instructional modules in a variety of 'delivery systems' from traditional 'in-class' lectures 'on-site' to video/lecture presentations on networked computers are currently offered. The four modules are:
- An American pronunciation course;
- an academic reading course;
- (iii) a Latin-Greek word root course;
- (iv) an 'American idioms' course. These twelve (12) week 'mini-courses' are self-contained. Students can register for one, two or all four modules. (The utilization of Internet resources is an important aspect of our business model. Our long-term plan is to digitize these language courses for distribution as CD-ROMs, VHS tapes, and PDF files.)
