The development of speaking competence is enhanced through formal speeches, academic presentations, oral reports, and small group discussions. Aural comprehension is cultivated by means of video and audiotapes, classroom lectures, and televised newscasts and films. As part of the writing skills development phase, students are required to prepare formal compositions, business letters, short library reports, and a research paper of 7-10 double-spaced, typewritten pages. Many writing assignments are completed 'on-site' using word-processing software in UEC's computer lab. A selected number of speech presentations are videotaped and critiqued by instructors to increase students' confidence in their extemporaneous speaking ability. Writing, vocabulary, and reading exercises are presented on a weekly basis. Homework is also assigned.

PIEC includes four-hour basic ESL classes plus one-hour one-to-one private lesson everyday. Moreover the students of PIEC can take any classes that are offered at UEC without limits.
